97 merc 75 steering cable

My single cable steering is frozen it appears to be shaft end at grease seal can not get that baby loose tried almost everything? If i go to remove entire pivot shaft/cylinder do I need to support/suspend engine? Any suggestions would be of help. Thanks Rick

Get you some good penetration lubricant(Super Juice) and spray generously into all exposed areas. Then get a large steel rod and try to hammer it out on the end. If Cancer has fused it all together, and you have to take out the tilt tube, then YES the motor will need to be supported. Most of them tap out with some force, but some test the "Enginuity" of us all....
