:confused:Last weekend as I was going out onto the lake I stopped and started using the trolling motor (Fishing) a couple of hours of trolling went by and I was ready to head to another spot, I fired up the 140 (beast) when I went to put it in gear it didnt go into gear, made a clicking noise and then after about 30 seconds of me wondering what was going on it slipped into gear. I went imediately back to the boat ramp. I put back in neutraland killed the motor, i then backed the trailor into the water to load boat. to my surprise the beast wouldn't go into gear again, no reverse or forward it just made the clicking sound like it wanted to go into gear but just wouldn't go in. I guess what I am needing to know is: is my tranny screwed? is there some kind of adjustment? I have no clue as my last Evinrude engine 115hp ran perfect all the time.

Any suggestions you can give would be helpful.

there is adjustments on your shift linkage coming from your cotrol box and going to the engine check that and try to manually put it in gear at the engine and see what happens

:p Bullbat I thank you for that bit of information. I manually put motor into gear. I then found the adjustment on the shift cable and adjusted that. Hopefully it will warm up enough for me to take to the lake and try out this afternoon and see if that fix's the problem. The cable did seem to have a bit of play in it to!

I will post another reply after putting boat into water and testing.

Thanks again,
MadRacer:)

If its to fast your to old!:D

When you have time, set the cable length by disconnecting the cable and adjusting it to the shift lever. To do that, put the motor in neutral, disconnect the cable at the engine, move the control arm all the way forward and then back to neutral. Then, adjust the cable until it will reattach to the shift lever without any movement of the shift lever.

I read your reply a bit ago. I went out and did just that. Pretty simple i think. I thank you both very much, your knowledge has given me knowledge!

This i just so great! I've spent about 10 hours on the internet, trying to figure out whats wrong with my freinds motor, and this is of big help to me (and him....). We spent all day yesterday trying to figure out why the motor wouldnt go into forward or reverse. Here's a picture of the gear-cable-mount on the side of the powerdrive. Gearcable starts at top left corner and connects as to have two functions. 1.) To change from neutral to forward and reverse and 2.) to lock motor in reverse. The cylinder at lower middle/rigth side (with two splitpins at bottom and some stains of black paint on top-left side) contains two springs to dampen gearchange and avoid ripping gear if idle is to high (works both up and down, up=reverse, down=forward). Another probleme with this drive: We looked all over but cant seem to find any marks to identify manifactor of drive or modelnumber, so its been quite a job finden solutions to this problem. We ended up getting the motor to either going from neutral to forward or from neutral to reverse, but as this is my good freinds first boat, im reluctant to leave him without both options (could maybe do with neutral and forward, but as a rookie on the sea, find it best to give him the option of "reverse" also). :D Think this is a self-made combo of motor and drive, since the motor is a Rover 3,5 L V8 vith 200+ HP (?), and havent heard of a "Rover Z-drive"...?). I'll post pictures of this later, and would be thankfull if anyone could tell me the producer of this drive + any other information that might be helpfull. Please forgive me for my bad spelling and choice of words, but im from Denmark and english/american is "only" my 2. language.... ;)
