I just purchased a 98 225 Johnson Ocean Runner. The motor ran great on the sea trial before I bought the boat, but after buying it and running it for an extended time the motor will bog down occasionaly. I checked the bulb and it was okay while running at the same time the problem happened. I think it is electrical. The voltage meter tops out at 16 and the gauge shows past that. Any sugggestions on what to look for?

Is it overheating at all? when you stop and let things cool down does it run ok again and then start the same cycle?

If it's not overheating, no alarm and the block feels OK, check your spark when it start losing RPM. Dropping a cylinder will do that. Maybe just a coil went south....it happens.

I don't think that it is overheating. I have no alarm going off, the pisser is strong and the water coming out is cool. I took the cowling off and could touch the motor near the thermostats and hold my hand there for a few seconds without it being to hot. It can really happen at anytime I have found out. I am taking it to a shop tommorrow morning and see what happens.

Just a warning.... Watch the voltage. I fried a power pack lickety split at ~18 volts.
