model E115SLECM

Problem - starter turns over but doesn't engage the flywheel.
- have had starter rebuilt.
- installed new starter relay
- verified cables & batts are good.
- took power directly to starter terminals and still no change - just spinning starter.

Does anyone know anything about this? Please help!! Going nuts here!!.

You probably have a gummed up shaft preventing the bendix gear from spiraling up to the flywheel, SoCol. Clean the shaft and lube with a light oil, like sewing machine oil.

If that doesn't fix your problem, go to the Engine FAQs and do the "wont start" troubleshooting.

Good luck, and let us know what you find. :)

Thank you for the advice - which leads me to another question

- If I take off the plastic cowl that hides the bendix/starter gears, will I mess up the timing or anything else I should be wary of?
