Hi,
Just pick up a '98 Bass Tracker 16w/ '98 Force 40hp. Motor will steer completely to the right to make a tight turn, but turning left, motor will only turn slightly because rod is all the way in the tube. Unhooked steering arm and centered motor and steering wheel and it seems like the steering arm is too short by about
1-1/2" inches. The arm is 11". Do I need a longer one? Or is there another adjustment? Thanks!

Fisher, is the 11 inch arm you are speaking of a separate piece that links the motor to the end of the cable? Excuse me if that sounds dumb, but it sounds like you may be missing the arm itself.

My 50 hp Force uses an 11 inch arm and it works just fine.

Yes, the steering arm is a separate piece. Attaches to the front of the motor and to the end of the steering cable rod. Thanks.

Duh! Just occured to me. Try centering the motor, disconnect the arm from the cable end, then turn the steering wheel to the right until the cable end matches up with the end of the arm and then re-connect it. You may have to pull your steering wheel off to center it to match.

Docdoc, thanks for the advice. I did try that today, but the arm seems to be so short that the cable rod has to be almost all the way in when the motor is centered, this will not allow the motor to turn left. I'll try to post some pics tommorrow. Thanks again.

Hmmmm, Baffling! With an 11 inch arm, the cable end on my Force 50 extends about 8 inches beyond the end of the tube when the motor is centered. Sounds like the cable is too short, or you may not have a Force motor mount there? I'll wait for your pictures.
