Thanks all for your inputs to my cooling problem, I got it straightened out, had to order new thermo. Anyhow, I changed the prop due to damage, now I seem to have a small oil leak coming out from around the 2 bolts holding I believe the raceway, I never removed any other components along the prop shaft when I changed, now I have a leak.

Replace oring seal or something more sinister

Could be the bearing carrier #14 has been damaged (cracked). Maybe the "O" ring #15 is bad. Maybe one of the seals #17 #18 is bad, although I would expect that you would see oil around the prop shaft, not the retaining bolts.

Mercury, Mercruiser, Force, etc. - GEAR HOUSING ASSEMBLY - FORCE 75 H.P. (1998)

If it is the bearing carrier, it doesn't come with any of the bearings or seals, numbers 15, 16, 17, 18.

Pretty simple set up, however, the bearing carrier can be a pain to remove as it's a pretty tight fit. It has to be pulled out pretty much perfectly straight. Sometimes a puller has to be used. Prying on the ears where the two retaining bolts go sometimes results in broken ears.

Good luck, hopefully it's just #15 the "O" ring.

Pressure test the unit before any repairs.
If the carrier needs to come out???
Use a puller any other way can cause costly damage$$$$$
After the pressure test, post the results.
Location? You might be close to someone who can help???

Update....well boys and girls I' thoroughly miffed now. Had the motor in a barrel 44 gal, lots of water almost a foot above the inlet, let it idle for 20 minutes and hyessssss no over heat alarm. Figured I t was solved.....not, thing did it again today on the lake. Worked as supposed to with a strong stream coming out the tell tale....ran down the lake and entered a no wake so less than 5 mph, 5 minutes later the overheat alarm comes on. Let it cool ran it down the lake and idled again but no alarm.

Soi the question begs......faulty sensor?

I replaced the entire pump assy impeller etc, new thermo 130deg as specs state. So why is it overheating intermittently. I idled from the marina to the launch area, and it didn't overheat

Hi calworks what i would do is go get a infored thermometer the ones that you point and shoot at the object and it tells you the tempature. that way you will know what the the temp of the motor. and you can see what temp each cylender is at. take a temp close to the over heat sensor atleast you will know if it is really over heating or not thats a good pice of mind. those infored thermometers are not to expensive around 30 to 50 bucks. and try wiggling the wire and see if the alarm gose on or off may broken/loose wire and look at your water inlet on the lower unit make sure the screens arnt pluged with debri hope this helps

Could also be some crud in the water passages in the exhaust cover. The water passages there are pretty small in diameter in some spots. Not uncommon where sand has gotten sucked up by the water pump after hitting a sandy bottom in shallow water and deposited in the exhaust cover restricting the water flow.

Under normal conditions the engine will get hot after running at WOT or cruising above 3 or 4 thousand RPMs and slowing down for a no wake zone. I installed a water temp. and water pressure gauge several years ago. I have a 130?F thermostat in my motor. When I'm running at WOT, the motor reads 130?F and about 22LBS of water pressure. When I slow down for a no wake zone, water pressure drops to about 7LBS and temperature climbs to about 150?F for a few minutes, then it slowly drops back down to 130?F.

My problem seems it sounds the over temp alarm, it's got me baffled, so gonna let the pros do a tune up and fix the problem.

How does one back fluch the inlet holes to make sure they are not plugged. Good steady stream would indicate to me they are clear
