New question?
Thanks for the help on the pump cwilt.

I recently purchased a used 98 Merc with electric start and when first trying it out noticed first it pee real good and then it would spit. Then it would pee again and start spitting.

After replacing the water pump I found out this is the thermostat opening and closing. Then when reading in the service manual I read that the manual starts don't have a thermostat and the electrics do.

Why is that? Should I leave the thermostat in or take it out?

on the top of the shift shaft their is a pin with a lock just pry with a small screwdriver up to release the lock and remove the pin. be careful not to loose the washer on top of the shift shaft, it must be reinstalled when reassembling L.U. the impeller is the actual part that spins to create water press, the water pump is the whole assy.

chris
