I am having issues with my 98 Mercruiser 4.3L. Starter was replaced brand new. Slave solenoid was replaced and new ignition switch put in. When I try to start, starter just spins and makes a whining noise. All connections seem to be tight and battery has been fully charged. I even tried jumping from the slave solenoid but still same results. Fly wheel seems fine with all teeth. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you've removed the starter to bench test/check bendix movement and verified the ring gear teeth are sound?

video sounds like bendix is activating but the starter gear has nothing to grab

the positive cble on the large screw is not powering up the starter for some reason. the power to spin the bendix is only coming from the yellow/red wire on the small terminal. check your power cable to the starter

yes and no

yel/red comes from the slave solenoid secondary to the starter solenoid primary to activate the magnet in the starter solenoid. starter solenoid engages and moves the bendix towards the ring gear and connects main battery cable to starter motor which then rotates engaging the starter gear with the ring gear

video isn't 100% clear what is going on sound wise but to me it sounds as if starter solenoid IS engaging and motor IS spinning, just unsure if bendix is moving or gear isn't engaging with ring gear hence my question as to if op has verified operation of starter and bendix and inspected ring gear. op stated "flywheel seems fine with all teeth" does not sound definite to me

I have not taken the starter back out to bench test/check bendix movement and verify the ring gear teeth are sound. I did replace the starter with a brand new one and was able to start once then after shutting off I now get what you hear in the video.
