Hi,

I recently bought a boat with a 1998 115hp yamaha saltwater series outboard (less than 200hrs). The motor starts well, idles and runs well. However, I've noticed that it is hard to restart after it is already warmed up. It does not happen all the time, but this is especially true when I start it up (when already hot), run it at idle for less than a 1-2 minutes (turn it off) and then try to restart it. When I have this problem, I can restart the engine by letting it sit for a couple of minutes and then pulling the manual choke and gassing the starting throttle in neutral and firing it up

My bulb pumps up firmly. The engine does not missfire or stall.

I've also made the following observations:

The solenoid that actuates the remote choke keeps the choke closed even if I take my finger off the remote button. However, the choke will reopen when the engine is restarted with some gas on the starting throttle. Not sure if this is supposed to work that way??? Furthermore, when I manually pull the choke lever and push it back in quickly, the solenoid will keep the choke in the fully closed position. Again, normal function or faulty? Even when the choke is open, I still have the hot starting problem.

Where do I start with this hot starting issue. Fuel pump? carb job?
