Recently, my 98 Pro-V 200 locked up after many hours of flawless service. My mechanic replaced powerhead with a new, not remanufactured, powerhead. He also replaced water pump and cleaned carbs. I double oiled for @ 13 hours and followed the break in procedure to a tee. I've probably have run @ 40 gallons under normal oil injection since break in and installed new plugs. Prior to rebuild I ran 5800 rpm at 52mph on gps. Now it only turns 5200 rpm at 48 gps at proper trim. Same prop, etc. I thought maybe linkage changed from service work but mechanic said probably not, just run it some more and see if it improves. Just for info, mechanic is well known and respected, but I am still suspect that it may need some tweaking. Ideas?

I guess I should expand a little....

What I mean is, don't push the motor to possibly reach that 5800 rpms...

Also check to make sure the motor height is the same, if they removed the motor on the rebuild...

If the break in as you say has gone by the book, it may indeed need some tweaking....

Have you checked the compression?

And what was the cause of the seize up in the first place?

Re: 98 Yamaha 200 rebuild

KCLOST, thanks for input. We found the throttle linkage bolt needed adjustment and all is well. As to your question. Coming in from long day on water and low on gas, saw a buddy just putting in and he invited me to go get some more, so I did. Grabbed wade gear and locked rest of tackle away at a safe public marina as I have many times before. Next day noticed handle to rod and main storage broke. Tally $2500 worth of rods and tackle gone. A few days later gased up and went to add oil but noticed oil resevoir nearly full through see through bowser. I didn't put 2+2 together but after a few hours of off and on running temp. alarm and rpm shutdown hit me. Let sit and restarted no problems, headed toward dock and kept engine under 3500 for about 15 minutes until engine came apart. Thought it was just time until mechanic ask how so much water got into the oil bowser. Seems thieves are also degreed in sabotage also. Got caught with my pants down.
