Guys, I hit a submerged log and broke my tiller bracket and shallow drive stuff. I fixed that, but had what I thought was a weak water flow. I replaced the water pump impeller which had heated up and taken a bad set, replaced the head gasket, exhaust cover gaskets, thermostat, various o-rings and such. I now have it back together and it's pumping water out the tell-tale great--much harder.
Question: The powerhead feels a little hotter than I expected. I can still touch it for 3 seconds but it gets darned uncomfortable after 4 or 5 seconds. THe exhaust cover is not warm at all. Water coming out the tattle-tale is nice and cool. Is this just the correct temp. because the thermostat is letting it get warm? As I said, it's pumping water great. I don't want to ruin this motor--it's the only one I've ever purchased new and it runs like new.
None of the powerhead or crankcase feels exceptionally hot, BTW. I figure the thermo is for 140 degrees. I wouldn't think that would feel very hot....am I wrong?
Thanks,
JBJ
PS-- those little keepers on the shift rod are quite tricky if you don't have a manual!!!!!!!
