Dont know if this is right place but here goes.
Last weekend hit an oyster bed here in Florida the low water state.
Took water on and engine is seized after water entered into block. Removed spark plugs and wala water.
My question is this. The boat hull is really nice and a unique design. It was super fast with the 5.0. Looking to replace it and possible with the 5.7
Hull: Cobalt 1999 206 model with DP outdrive
If anyone reads this could use a some help. Knee deep into breaking engine down and soon ordering before

I have a 99 Cobalt 206 with a 5.0 DP SM hit an oyster bed and took water into engine compartment.
Removed drive and all is okay, but engine is shot, as water got inside and it has seized the engine. It currently had 460 hours on it.
I am totally lost here but I am retired so time is my friend. It is going to get repaced but thinking a 5.7 might be a better choice.
If all things will transfer over is this do able
Anyone done this? Any advice is really appreciated and needed

Thanks

The 5.7 will bolt right up. Get a 1995 or newer vortec long block. Carb is probably fine but would check the plugs a few times after running WOT to see if your running lean.

Being your 20 ft you won't have a hp plate

Welcome to iBoats . . . :D (y)

"Took water into the engine compartment" . . . tell us more about that , as it could indicate damage to the transom - perhaps. Are you sure the outdrive is OK  . . . how about the transom assembly?

I beleiev I broke my seal on transom as after pulling out of water there was water running down the transom from plate. So best I could tell is probably moved on impact

You will get a chance to get a good look at everything about and around the transom when you pull the engine. Just be ready for a few surprises.

Will my exhaust manifolds bolt onto the new one. I am only into this like 2 days so really going slowly as not sure what is what is needed to transfer

Yes, the 5.0 and 5.7 are the same on the exterior

Just got of the phone with a company and I will be going with straight replacement of 5.0. A deal I can not refuse 1900 I just mount all accesories and exhaust. I am almost half way with tear down. If I actually worked on it would be ready in like three days. But thank you to all the lovefor the help

While you have the engine out check the transom mount carefully for any wood rot in the transom core, any cracks in the housing and any sign of water leaks on the inside (steering arm, exhaust Y pipe). Now is the time to fix things like that on a 22 year old boat!

1900 that is cheap, is it rebuilt or used?
Going rate for 5.0 is 3000 and the 5.7 is a bit lower at 2700
Make sure its a 1995 or newer, otherwise your loosing HP

It is 19 and change with a rebuildable core. Can I say the company name as dont want issues with the forum rules. They are a very big engine rebuild/new engine out of Chicago

The more I read and look into this, I iknow will nor be simple but in the end. A running boat again.
I am seriously thinking of just getting a long block 5.7 as looking at the 5.0 not many of my accesorys will bot right up to it. Example. raw water pump, so I wish I could see both motors to see what is possible.
Has anyone here ever done this before? Do you happen to live in the Tampa area? Consulting???

Look up on line for a water pump. Then check fit, you will see they will fit both 5.0 and 5.7

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... Donno what yer talkin' about,.....

If you get a post-'96 long block, 5.0l, or a 5.7l, everything off yer old motor, will bolt onto the new long block,......
The 5.0l, 'n the 5.7l are Identical, externally,..... No differences,.....

I'd be more concerned with This,.....

Odds are, yer transom is rotten, 'n needs replacing,....

This needs to be repaired, before a new motor can be installed,....
