99 Force 120 just quits

I'm looking for some advice on a 99 Force 120. It has about 30 hours of total running time on it since I purchased it brand new and installed this year.

Yesterday I was just cruising along, everything seemed to be fine and then it just quit. No signs of it running rough or anything. When I started it a few times after the idle seemed to be fine, but when I would put it in gear and push the throttle down it would die. After a few minutes I was able to get up to about 4500 rpm...thought it was running ok, and then the same thing...it died again.
After the 3rd time this happened I noticed if I gradually gave it some gas it would either die...or pick up speed slowly and appear to run normally.
After I got it running the 4th. or 5th. time and increasing the throttle slowly it ran at about 4000 rpm just fine...as it seemed to run fine I started testing it through out the entire rpm range with no problems, normal running! I ran it for another hour in the day...acted like nothing was ever wrong before I trailered it home.
Any ideas what it might have been...or what the problem still might be? I had my fuel tank vent open btw. :)
Any help would be appreciated!

Check the pickup in the tank...and check the fuel filter on the engine.

TMD

Let me know what you find out, mine is doing the same exact thing. I've read another post that suggests it may be a bad battery.

Thanks for the input...I'm going to swap out the fuel filters this weekend to see if that will help.
On a side note, while breaking in the engine for the first 10 hours I ran a 25:1 mixture as Mecury recommended. Since I have run about 4-5 tanks of the standard 50:1 ratio of premix. Should spark plugs be changed? Also, while under the hood I happened to notice that there didn't seem to be any type of air filter element going into the carbs...not even a flame arrestor, could this be a problem? The motor came right out of the crate and on to my boat..possible that an air filter is missing?

Thanks!

I'd be hard pressed to blame that on a battery, though it depends on what kind of charging system you have. Unless it has a motorola Distributor Ignition, which I don't think many do, it doesn't require a battery to run. Usually a bad battery just doesn't hold a charge, so point ignitions or electronic ignitions wouldn't do this with a bad battery, and a distributor ignition probably just wouldn't run at all.

There is no air filter or flame arrestor on these engines. On your stalling problem, check to see if your primer bulb is hard when the engine stalls this could be a sign of fuel starvation. :)

Will try the primer bulb...

I have not had the boat out to see how it will run since it had the problem. I replaced hhe fuel filter/water seperator last week just to be on the safe side as well.

Thanks!
