IMG_0839.JPG1999 25 HP electric start, serial # 0G874716C Factory reconditioned. She is a program motor that the factory intalled a new power head on and sold through a dealer with a new motor warranty. I'm appealing to the small outboard guru's for guidance. I have replaced the impeller every 3-4 years. It's been about 2-3 months since she was ran. Put it on muffs to run before going to check on the hunting spot. I had no water out of the weep hole. Ran it maybe 1 minute because this model has the thermostat. Shut it off and pulled the stat to see if it was stuck. Of course one of the bolts tried to gald on the way out. I had no water behind the stat, so I put the hose to the stat hole and water ran out of the pickup grill. I moved the hose back to the muffs and turned the water wide open. With the engine running or not, I get no water at the stat. I'm gonna replace the water pump and the stat. Is there something I should put on the stainless bolts to keep them free? Thanks, Cliff P.S. When I try to find parts online, the sites don't find my serial # unless I drop the C and they want a model #. I've looked on every sticker and can't find any number close to the ones on the sites.

Hi Cliff,

I have a '00 25HP 2-stroke SeaPro motor, and in my case it did not pee either when run on muffs.
I kept checking the engine temperature with a laser gun at various points on the block and exhaust, and when it reached 95 - 100 C deg I shut shut the motor down.
I did check the impeller/waterpump and it was fine.
Looks like these motors do not like to run on muffs!
My muff is the squarish style and it covered the slits on the leg.
Try it in a barrel or on the lake! There might be nothing wrong with the cooling system.

Thanks Peter, I've used the muffs dozens of times and never had a problem. I'm pretty sure there is a piece of impeller stopping the water flow up but not down. I will know for sure when I've gotten the parts to repair the impeller. Is there a complete Quicksilver kit for this?

Hi Cliff,

This motor is new to me, so this is the first experience with the muffs. So far I am not impressed with the muff.
Here is a link to the gear case components http://www.**********/parts/search/Merc2/Mercury/25%2C%2025%20SEA%20PRO%2C%20SUPER%2015%20%282%20CYL.%29/0G760300%20THRU%200T979999/Gear%20Housing%28Driveshaft%29%20%282.25%3A1%20Gear%20Ratio%29/parts.html , they do not show a kit.

When I got a spare impeller for my motor (I did not need to replace), the dealer also had a kit, but he was so inept, that I am surprised that he got the impeller right!

Depending on the pump housing, the water might not get through the pump if the motor is not running. So I would not trust that test. You could test the flow across the block by removing the water pipe from the pump (when the leg is off), sticking it up into the block, rigging up some coupling with the water hose, and seeing if the water gets through. I did not do that test, probably I should have. But in any event, I will try my motor in a barrel or in the water next time.
Were you missing pieces of the impeller, is that why you think you might have bits and pieces in the block blocking water passages?

Regards, Peter

I haven't opened it up yet. I can't think of anything else that would allow water to flow from the thermostat hole at the top of the cylinder head and out at the water intake when not running while water will not flow from muffs to the stat opening running or not and the link you posted didn't work.

Hi Cliff,

The link does not work for me either!
If you look at the URL in the address bar of the page that tells you it can not find the page, there is a section at the beginning with the stars that was "boats dot net" on the original web page. Replace the *** section with "boats dot net" (use regular dot and no spaces!).
Looks like the posting SW filters out that web site for whatever reason (competition?).
