hey guys. i am still waiting to get my boat in the water. a mechaninc has it and says there is water getting into one of the cylanders even after a new head gasket. he is trying to push me into buying a new engine. i guess i want to know if i take it to a merc repair shop, what kind of costs am i looking at? from the easiest to hardest repair, and costs. thanks a lot.

and if someone knows a good place in central jersey, please let me know!!

try trixies in bayville...he is fair (albeit he has a 2 week wait for motors) on his prices and tells it like it is... if you need the number (he's listed) i will look it up for you...

ack...dunno what to tell you....your mechanic may be right though in pushing you towards a new motor...the powerhead replacement could be more than a new motor ...try calling around to like Marine Max, New Jersy Outboards, etc etc to see who can do work on it..

my brother has a 97 force 75hp and trixies works on that one (however he only has needed water pumps, and below the powerhead the force shares all the merc parts)

thanks again jim. i called garden state marina in point (right down the road from my slip), and they said they work on them. i will try to see if he can tell me what i need before dumping a lot of money into it. unfortunately i just had to but a new truck, so the funds are low. all part of owning a boat!!
