Hello all, I am fresh to this forum and also fairly new to small boats so forgive me if I ask any repeated questions.

I just picked up a Red 1986 9ft Avon inflatable with inflatable keel and wood transom and floor. The boat needs a little work but the pontoons hold air great. The issues are that the keel has a small leak along the seam so it will not inflate. This seems like a pretty easy fix to me as it is right at the seam, only issue is that I do not know if I need PVC or Hypalon glue. The boat appears to be Hypalon but I don't have enough experience to be certain. Next issue is the transom. It is mounted and completely intact but the center where the engine mounts is a little soggy. I am sure that it will hold a motor (6hp johnson) just fine, but I would like to add some sort of support just to be safe. My thoughts were to get a piece of hard wood and clamp/bolt it to the existing transom. Would this be a good idea? The floors, I think I can handle as I found a website that sells aluminum pieces for floors. And just one more question I have. They sell a paint for inflatables that is supposed to renew the look and also adds a nice layer over the pontoons to maybe prevent any minor leaks. Does anyone have any experience with this paint?

Thank you in advance, any input is appreciated as I would like to get this little cruiser going before the end of the season.

Avon are hypalon sib/ribs, post pictures of damages, paint works well for tube coatings. There's another rubber compound for inside tubes uses which seals minor leaks.

Ziptie 3 Pool Noodles together for the keel and call it good........

Your fix for the transom is fine........

Dont waste your money on Inflatable paint.......

This boat wont last much longer so just go cheap and enjoy.........

PS: Always keep you PFD on...........

Re: 9ft. Avon Inflatable issues

Thank you for the feedback!

I cleaned the boat up a bit this weekend. I glued the seem on the keel but haven't gotten a chance to see if it holds air yet. Does the pool noodle idea really work? If so I might try that if the repair doesn't work out. I found that the floors are actually not in as bad of shape as I had originally thought. They aren't great looking by any means but they seem to hold my weight and stay rigid just fine for now. As far as the transom goes... are there any recommended types of wood I should use? I was thinking even a piece of plywood would work fine if I coated it but if there is something better, I would like to go with that. And the paint/coating for the pontoons works but wouldn't be worth it on this boat? I would like to keep some life in this old Avon but I do plan to upgrade once I get my feet wet in the boating world. Also, PFDs are always a must! I have 3 jackets and floating cushions that will stay in the boat while on the water. Looks like I need some wood for the transom, a gas can for the motor, and a registration and I should be out on the water next weekend!

Thank you again for the advice, more input is always welcome!
