Was found walking in a busy 4 lane street this morning. 23* out, a bit of wind, and motorists were just driving around him. Finally a social worker happened by and picked the child up.

The social worker finally found the boys home about a mile away. The boy was put into custody of Social Services and the custodians of the boy was given citations for child neglect and endangering. The boy is to remain in SS's custody for 2 weeks until a full investigation of the custodial parents is done.

What is it with people now days? If you don't want to raise them properly, then don't make them.

Here is the article from the local paper:

http://www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060127/NEWS01/601270309&Searh

The worst thing about this story is WHY DID NOBODY ELSE STOP!!!!!

I really want to know how long he was passed by and by how many. If I see a woman who needs help changing a flippin' tire, I'll stop. A kid in sub freezing weather walking in traffic . . .

Jeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzuuuuuussssssss

I will wait for the rest of the story.... my son took off when he was 5 years old (we lived on a military base) and he was bouncing from being out front with me to behind the house with his Mom. Well I thought he was with my wife and visa versa and thankfully the neighbor saw him near the woods behind the house. He vanished within minutes. I had another aquantance in the Army whose 4 year old would open the door and go outside to play at 2 AM !! We installed chain locks on the door at 6 feet above the floor. His son was smart enough to unlock the door and the screen door.

I'll wait to see both sides. Citations I agree with but there may be a reason.

I was a master at getting away from my folks and wandering. They have many stories to tell. One involves rescue by a squad of Marines.

They finally put an actual leash on me in public. It worked for a bit.

A four year old can easily wake up on his own, unlock a door and go outside.

The adults that just drove on by are the ones that scare me.

Does SS stand for social services or is that short for the Mayfloat's foster home?

DOH! LMAO @ neumanns. No foster kids here, my adult children and grandkids is enough for me.

Social Services = SS

I think with all the child abductions going on has made some people blind to situations like this. Just don't want to get involved. There are sick people in this town and that would have been a prime time for them.

I grew up where there wasn't any neigbors in sight. Ma-n-pa still wouldn't let any of us kids out of sight. Of course the wildlife was a threat then. Now the woods and wildlife have been replaced by buildings and pedafiles.

Just checking, truth be told I wasnt sure. ;)

First time I read it as Mayfloat's and the next time trough it crossed my mind....Hey wait that proabably means somthing else.

I can vouch they can sure get away in a hurry but a mile + the time it took to search out the parents without anyone knowing is defiantly troubling.

But it did make me smile recalling the time I looked out the window and seen my son then about three scaling a six foot chain link fence fence. By the time I got to the front door he had crossed the top and was headed down the back side. There was a power crew working on a pole and he decided to get a closer look. Them guys said they had never seen anyone climb a fence that fast. Just one of several instances that come to mind.

True dat!!!
My youngest daughter woke us up at around 2AM once. She said she "wanted to go to grandma's house". We told her no, and to go back to bed.
At around 4 in the morning, the phone rang until I got up to answer it. It was my frantic father, screaming that 'Drea just climbed into bed with them! Understand, that my parents lived about THREE MILES from us, and one of those was on a 65MPH Highway with water-filled ditches on both sides!!!
Nobody stopped to pick her up either.
I often recall that incident, and wonder HOW she made it, who may have passed her in the road, the exact route she took, and if an angel was with her.
Her little "adventure" was still the "parent's fault".

In the sue happy liable society we live in I can see why some would not stop and get involved. To be perfectly honest I would have think twice before I picked up a strange kid I saw wandering.

I pulled some stuff like that when I was little, one of Mom's favorite stories is the time they lost track of me. Looked for hours, called out the police had them going door to door looking for me. Lots of people gathered at the house, still no trace of me. Finally Mom decides that everyone should be feed, opens the kitchen cabinet and there I was asleep!

Kids can slip away in a heart beat, I think it was wrong (at this point) for the child to be taken from its parents! Now if they can show real neglect,,,,,,,

I'm with NOSLEEP. There are ways to help and protect yourself. You just do it!! You have to.

12Footer's is the best of these stories. Wow! How old was she?

Our middle one, Aaron, has done the hiding and then fell asleep thing and he has walked to a neighbor's house at 3:00 AM. Their house is only 100 yards away though. He was probably around 5 or 6 then.
