Hi
I have a VP DPS drive and have a small amount of seawater leaking into the boat . I suspect one of the bellows .
I have had the gimball bearing and drive shaft replaced 6 months ago and the drive shaft bellows was replaced then . However i am not sure if the shift and exhaust were replaced .( mechanic has moved)
My question is which bellows will leak water into the boat.

Cheers
Dave

Re: A bellows Question

You have a bads ujoint bellows. The exhaust bellows won't let water in the boat even if it was missing, and there isn't a shift cable bellows like a Mercruiser, it has a hose inside the boat.
Note, it could be the tube that holds the gimbal bearing zirk. Those tubes leak and come loose at times.

Thanks Don .I was hoping that it wasnt the ujoint bellows as they are only 6 months old I will check the zirk tube first.

Not to hijack the thread, but what is the point of the exhaust bellows? If it doesn't keep water out, what does it do, and why is it necessary to have?

Re: A bellows Question

It routes the exhaust down the drive and out of the prop.
Without the exhaust bellows it will sound much louder....plus it helps to keep exhaust stains off of the transom.
Is it really needed? no....
