a few days ago i was checking my max RPM and speed, while i was doing so, reached 5000RPM, suddenly the gear started gradually slipping into neutral, if i pull the throttle back it went back to normal
then i tried again and it ran fine for about 30 seconds and then it started slipping into neutral again
when got back from fishing i tried it once more, and the same thing happened on even 4000RPM
i searched the internet for answers and noticed the most common problem for these symptoms is a spun hub
so i decided to start working on pulling it out
was a real ***** to do so but after buying a puller and modified it a bit ive managed to pull it out
as i was pulling it out, there was like pieces of plastic which looked like it grinded in there into powder falling down from the back of the prop
and when i pulled it out, i wasnt thinking and didnt take a photo of it so il try to draw something on an existing photo i found on the internet to describe better what i saw
boat0482am.jpg

came out a little exagarated but i hope you get the picture
now could this cause the gear slips ?
cause the mechanic whos installing a new plastic hub right now said that it most certain should look like that but wasnt so sure thats the reason it was slipping
what do you gents think ?

suddenly the gear started gradually slipping into neutral,
I think I saw this post a couple of days ago, and was confused then too. When you say "slipping into neutral", what do you mean? A spun hub absolutely would feel like the drive was in neutral, but has actually nothing to do with your shift and clutch mechanism. Describe what happens, not what you think the problem is. I think I am reading that your RPM starts to rise when you are at full throttle, and when you back down on the throttle it feels like it goes back to normal operation. This could be a spun hub, a bad drive (doubtful), a bad coupler or even ventilation which is a actually a propeller sucking air, not a failure of anything.

MAybe a better way to put this is why do you suspect your drive is "slipping into neutral"?

This absolutely sounds like a spun hub, and again, it may feel like slipping into neutral, but it is not a drive issue.. The plastic insert should absolutely have the flat sides, but that is to keep it from slipping . . .

im sorry if i were unclear, when i said slipping into neutral i meant in comparison to a car
say like your driving in a car, and you slowly start pressing the clutch pedal, the RPM will start rising but the car stops pushing itself forward, thats what happens on my boat
i heard the engine RPM rising and the boat started slowing down, so something must have slipping.
i dont suspect anything right now, except for my bent plastic hub which is why i posted here
that bent could cause it to slip ?

OK, not trying to beat you up at all, it's so hard to ask for more information without sounding condescending . . . But absolutely a hub that is slipping will feel like it is slipping into neutral. That's exactly what happens. However, now we need to figure out what you mean by "bent". Basically if any of the components in the hub system is able to spin independently of the adjacent piece, it will feel like neutral. I don't see any bent pieces in your pics. I do see the flat sides to the plastic insert, it's supposed to be like that. With all you know, and all you have seen, where do you think the plastic dust is coming from?

Ayuh,... I ain't seen 1 of those plastic hubs fail yet, but I'm bettin' I just saw 1....

Try another 1, 'n see if it Slips...

Give up on the slippin' into neutral analogy,.. it's more like spinnin' the tires on wet icy blacktop...

on the left side it is not my hub its just an photo off a hub i got off google, i know that it should look like that, flat on all sides
and the right side i tried drawing it, thats the shape it had when i pulled the prop out(god why didnt i take a picture?), that is what i mean by bent, the corners wasnt flat anymore
