A Craigslist bummer!

I just recently stumbled across a couple of websites that would do a nationwide search of all the Craigslists for any specific items that you were searching for. I never had the chance to try to make any purchases out of my area but I thought this was pretty neat.

This week I have been looking for a SBF Autolite 4100 carburetor and thought I would have a peek nationwide. Much to my chagrin, these two sites could no longer do the search. One posted a letter from Craigslist that ordered them to shut down. The letter only stated that it was against Craigslist's philosphy of local site offerings.

So much for a potentially good thing. Grrrrrrrrr!:rolleyes::confused:

That was one of the sites mscher. Go read it. You can now only do a search within a 250 mi radius from your zip code.

It's got a little slide button tool (red) under the distance that allows you to adjust it. neat tool

I pulled up listings from Wichata Falls TX, 900 miles away.

My Craigslist Helper page does not say anything about search limitations.

Craigshelper takes too long to scroll thru pages and pages of "Nothing found for that search", IMO.

Whenever I'm looking for something in Craigslist, I just use Google and type the word Craigslist + the item. I get hits from all over North America. It just works better for me.

Hey, I actually clicked on a banner link and found this! :)

http://www.adnotifier.com/index.php

Looks like a good thing for Cragslist junkies and is only TEN BUCKS!

Thanks mscher, I filed it away. I also missed that distance slide lever on the above posted website.

Still seems from my other saved link that Craigslist does not like these national searces.

Indeed it does arks. I tried it your way and it seems to work well.

Thanks

Re: A Craigslist bummer!

in google, enter "<keywords> site:craigslist.org" and you'll get the keywords in all locations. It also eliminates all the obsolete buying site references to craigslist stuff.

Craigslist moves faster than the indexes, though. A fair number of them will be obsolete.

Google is getting better all the time, though. I googled a technical topic I had written on about 10 minutes earlier, and got myself.

hope it helps

Was that crazedlist.org?

They put warnings up that if you search too many places at the same time, that craigslist could potentially recognize it and block your IP address from even using craigslist.

That would suck, as at times I make pretty good money off 'ol CL.

Re: A Craigslist bummer!

Most people don't have a static IP address through their internet provider, so it would be hard to ban your IP address. Even if you do have a static IP address and you get banned, there are plenty of ways to spoof your IP address and get around the block. :) The Google search is the way to go!
