We keep kicking around the idea of relocating to a different country. I’m of the opinion the world has shrunk enough there isn’t much difference in most countries, except for repressive Dictatorships. But one question still lingers:

Could you feel secure living in a country where the government has the authority and a history of taking people into custody and then secretly charging them with crimes, holds a secret arraignment, secret trial, secret conviction and sealed transcripts? It wouldn’t apply to us since we are not of the criminal element.

Good catch Bomar!

As long as the government is freely elected, I say it is OK. You have to trust them that they know what is best. Also a key word is "trial". If it was all done on the word of one person, I would be concerned!

Also, if you think the USA is the only country that does something like this, think again.

Re: A Different Country

Just keep in mind that to relocate to another country brings with it inherent difficulties all of it's own.
You will find differences both positive and negative everywhere.
You will take to this new country all the ratialisations and intellectualisations you presently carry, and that could do you no favours.
If political imprisionment is that high in your mind then you would need to be either very wealthy or able to lay low wherever you went and that is a big ask for any family.
Ross
