Alright so I originally wanted to take my boat in to the shop for them to look it over and get it ready for the water but my finances have other ideas. Plus I have been reading through my manuel and through all the great info here and I think this is something I can handle myself I do have a few questions though.

1. I dont want to tow her all the way to the lake to try and start her for the first time. Is a motor flush an ok way to go as long as I just let her idle?

2. The previous owner cut the steering wheel off and did not replace it. The mechanisum that holds the wheel is still there it just looks like he cut it between the wheel and the hub. The steering seems ok when I turn the motor by hand I can see the remanants of the wheel turning. Question is how do I get the rest of the old wheel off and replace with a new one.

3. If I do get her started is there anything in paticular I should look for while she is idling that will let me know if its running right or wrong?

Below is a list of things im going to do before I try to start her let me know if im missing anything. Keep in mind this engine was rebuilt a year ago but not run since.

1.Drain lower case oil and replace.
2.Change out spark plugs.
3.Change out the line from the tank to the enigine.
4.Lube the prop

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: A few more questions

1. Run her on the muffs; I always start at home before I head to the ramp.

2. There should be either 3 or 4 bolts (depending on the steering box you have) holding the unit to the dash; once these are out, the steering unit will drop from under the console. Then there is a release on the unit that lets the cable run all of the way out.

3. It should idle smoothly and after a minute or so you should get a strong telltale that is hot but not scalding.

It would be a very good idea to tell us what make and model outboard you have, noclue.

The steering is a Boat Forum question. Post it there.
