Sorry, but I'm a bit long winded... I don't get online very often, so when I do, I've got alot to talk/ask about...

1- Does anyone know the recommended/mfg's max RPM for a 1996 Merc 225EFI?

2- Does it have a rev limiter?
I'm thinking my tach is flaking out at high RPMs becuase it seems I can push it over 6k if I wanted to. I typically do not run it hard, but just noticed this. Is it commin for tach's (mine is a Teleflex) to go bad over time? I really does sound like it's running that high... but it's kinda hard to hear at 70mph. :p

3- What should the water pressure be at idle & at cruise speed? It have a wp gauge with tube connected to the motor at the top of the lower unit. The tattle tail is spraying hard & it runs cool. The wp gauge is reading 2-4psi at idle and 10-12psi while cruising.

4- It has the original stock water pressure style speedo in the dash. I have no need for this instrument and want to replace it with something more useful, but I cannot figure out where the water pickup is for this thing. There is only the transducer for the new Lowarance mounted under ther transom. Where the heck does this speedo get it's wp from? The motor somehow?

THANKS!!!!!

Re: A few questions...

1. 5000 to 5500 RPM
2. NO
3. 8 to 10 lb. at WOT
4. Look at the front of the lower unit just below the lower swival bracket and you will see the plastic hose coming out of the lower unit.

Re: A few questions...

Geez... I was runing my Dad's 2001 90hp Johnson over the weekend and niticed it's water pressure running 20psi while cruising. I guess that's why I found the Merc225 to be so low.

Since the pressure remains so low, is there a 15psi gauge available? Mine is a 30psi gauge and it's hard to tell the difference between 2psi at idle and 0psi. It scares me. :( I'm thinking a lower range gauge would better indicate the lower pressure.
