Hello I have a 19ft fiberglass boat i am redoing and havent been able to find some answers-
Are all lower unit skegs going to be the same distance from the bottom center of the boat, reguardless if it is a flat bottom or deep v?
FYI-I'm am having to cut the hole in the transom for the I/O and my boat has a deep v.

I am sanding the boat down with an electric orbit sander and was wondering if there is a faster more effective way of doing this w/o making the fiberglass unpaintable? I.E a better sander.

Next I am redoing the stringers with douglas fir and was wondering what is the best way of checking the boat for levelness or is it all done with the eye?
Thank for any help.

Re: A Few Questions

1.No all lower units are not the same..you can get deep drives.

2.why are you sanding the boat ?..and no..you can never make the fiberglass "unpaintable" (Porter Cable 6" sander with good sandpaper is allways the best) ... ( gonna have to try to make these air tool buffies using Dynabraide sanders understand hehe )

3. Mohogony for such a small boat for stringers
Is your boat level to level the motor ? level the boat then level the motor

Re: A Few Questions

The flat plate above the prop is usually the same distance from the bottom- keel- of the boat so the prop does not suck in air. Call the manufacturer to get it right.---------------------------- The new stringers will give you a POSSIBLE chance to make the bottom of the boat correct. IF you know what it is to look like. If straight, use a tight chalk line. Done.

That's known as the "X dimension"......
You'll establish that when you cut the "Hole"......
No,... they're Not all the same......
You'll want the Anti-cavitation plate to be even with, or just above the bottom of the boat.........
was wondering if there is a faster more effective way of doing this w/o making the fiberglass unpaintable? I.E a better sander
I use an Air powered D/A Sander, or sometimes an Air Longboard Sander,... depending on the contours of the area I'm sanding.....
was wondering what is the best way of checking the boat for levelness or is it all done with the eye?
I use Levels,+ Stringline......
