A few XP Questions and assistance needed

This is a question from my wife.... Situation: She works at an Adult Theraputic Community Residence where she assists in the care of individuals who have less than average social skills and have mentality levels that vary from a young child up to and including genius IQ!! (Not a PC term but they suffer from mental illness') The easy way to tell the Staff from the residents..... The Staff members have the keys! (Even then it's tough!!)

A new computer was installed today and a few safeguards need to be installed. They want to:

1. block users from making any computer changes and password the Admin account- this one is done

2. Create a user account that limits the features on the computer and access to items such as FORMAT C !!! pretty much done so they can no add or delete programs.

3. Password INSIDE the user account so a password is required to obtain internet access. The Staff wants to limit the adults access and try to prevent them from using this as a Porn Playground and allow them to use this as a computer for college work. The actual purpose of the password is to make the residents feel monitored and be aware that the Staff is keeping an eye on things.

Go ahead and laugh a bit. A few years ago the Secret Service and the FBI paid a visit to the home (My wife tells me they have NO SENSE of humor). Seems as if a resident was sending threats to the White House. Just imagine the e-mails that could be sent!!

Any Suggestions? (Yes, my wife is actively seeking a better place to work but she loves the residents.... NO that is NOT where I came from!)

Well, in a nutshell I can tell you how I do it although the environment may be a little different.

1. Join the computer to a Win2K/Win2K3 domain that has a good set of policies setup with gpmc.
2. Setup a mandatory profile for your user.

3. Make your user non-priveleged.

4. Install a content-filtering firewall or proxy server that requires one to login to access web pages.

As far as what to do on a stand-alone PC I'm not too sure. IE7 is supposed to have some child security features but I haven't checked those out yet. Be wary of some software package you can throw 40 bux at and make all your problems go away though. Some of the things I mentioned above can somewhat be implemented on a stand-alone pc.

Slow but working on it. Jenn has odd hours and between the daily tasks and her schedule it has been slow. I will keep you informed.
