A good buy?

I am currently looking at purchasing a 232 Robalo Centre Console. The boat is a 1981, with a 150hp Merc (same year). I want to be able to use this boat for fishing in Lake Ontario as well as some diving. I want to replace the engine and add about a 200-250hp outboard. A question I would like to know is if the transom will be able to hold the weight of an outboard? After doing a visual inspection of the boat, there is no physical evidence that the transom is weak or no cracking. If anyone could give an opinion on this boat and my plans, that would be greatly appreciated.

Belchy

It has a 150 outboard, but the owner says its underpowered so I wanna replace it with a new 200-250hp outboard. I just don't wanna rip the transom off it, by being over powered.

There is a capacity plate on the boat. Among other things, it will tell you the maximum horsepower that the hull is rated for. As long as you don't exceed that rating, you'll be fine.

Weights for outboards have since 81.. you shoud be able to find the find the weight of you have now and compare.. The extra beating an extra 100 hp adds to transom may be an issue though

Jim
