I'm back lol , Ok so my 3.0 is acting a pain I think I am leaning in the right decision so I'm asking your guys opinions and advice.........

I changed the plugs , Checked and set timing and checked firing order , gapped plugs .... Checked compression......

Ran on the muffs like a champ ........ Took boat to the lake backed boat in water and kept on trlr and ran fine in gear under a load .......

Unloaded Boat ran boat to WOT ran very good I was pleased then on the way back to the ramp I heard a backfire and it started running like crapola then died ......... Cranked it back up and while it is in neutral it runs but as soon as you put in gear it dies.......

Got back home rechecked compression and timing and checked plugs all good ...... I noticed the flame arrestor is a bit dirty so Im thinking Clean that and I'm leaning toward a carb problem am I looking toward the right direction.........

Remember I'm new to boats and this is my first one and seems like previous owners were not into maintance and I'm slowely but surely trying to correct these things the right way ..........

Fuel pump looks brand new .......... While I'm at it I will tell you previous owners had firing order wrong , timing was set at 10 degrees instead of 6 degrees .........

Sorry about being so long winded wanted to tell exactly everything I could ... Any help and advice is appreciated and Thank you all in advance......

My guess is the fuel line is restricted, ( junk in carb, anti-siphon valve dirty, fuel filter dirty.

Sounds a lot like water in the fuel (and carb). Do you have a water separating fuel filter on your boat? They are not an OEM item, but with todays fuels, every marine engine needs one.

Re: A Lil Help Please

It's either being affected by fuel flow or heat.
Fuel- plugged fuel filter/s, anti siphone valve, plugged tank vent, dirty carb, water in fuel, really bad gas, bad fuel pump.
Heat- ignition related, coil heating up, points and/or condensor bad, shift interupt switch misadjusted, bad module or amplifier, not likely though, grounds or wiring connections corroded. May be more but likely one of these to be you culprit.

Ahhhhhhh ok since you mentioned it I did notice when I got the boat home and was rechecking compression and spark plugs that the coil seemed awfully warm I will add a coil to my shopping list and check the other things mentioned .

Coils always get warm when used. Before you start buying a bunch of parts for no reason, remove the carb and pull the top off the carb and check for dirt, water, and corrosion inside the carb.
