I have a 1990 Evinrude 6hp with a broken button at the end of the tiller where the safety lanyard attaches. There are two wires running from the button to the engine. I was wondering if I cut one of the wires if it would disable the safety button feature and enable me to start the engine. I have no use for the safety lanyard. I would like to keep the kill button working which is also located at the end of the tiller.

The safety lanyard and kill button grounds out the mag. cut the wire close to the lanyard making sure you are not cutting between the kill switch and the mag. I am not familiar with your engine but most units are built like this. Have fun.
