Here's an excerpt from a recent email.
For the story of BS... Bryant is my cousin, 100% independent before, met a girl, sold his house, moved in with her. We try to contact him with no results for nights of boozing like pre-girlfriend era. In short, he has this new syndrome...

He's got Bryant syndrome. Bryant Syndrome (B.S. for short) is now being recognized by the American Medical Association. After a few recognizable cases, they finally put a name around it. The effects are devastating to the male psyche. It normally occurs in young men ages 21-30 and can last a lifetime if the proper steps aren't taken. The key is early discovery and treatment followed by isolation from the contributing female.

Fishing trips are on the list of treatments that can stem the disease from completely taking over. Also, beer is a known remedy and will retard the disease considerably, thus restoring the affected male to his once independent self. Although a complete cure is not available at this time,it is speculated that a new girlfriend may be the silver bullet to eradicating this disease. Initial trials look promising, but recent studies show that B.S. syndrome at first goes into some kind of remission
with this treatment only to rear it's ugly head at a later date in a more severe form. ...

The male will eventually has to reenter the original environment, thus giving the prominent female to convince the vulnerable male into the original state of BS. A strong support group is necessary to keep the male from once again being affected by BS. Without a strong support system, a week of fishing and drinking, may not prove a long enough treatment to prevent relapse. Members of the support group may not have any symptoms of BS, otherwise the support group will not be able to correct the Syndrome.

It is important to note that the male is in an extremely harrowing situation with this syndrome. Different strains of the disease exist, some more potent than the others, depending on the veracity of the female instigator. You are correct, for the most intense strains, sadly, it is left up to the male to combat alone, thus further providing an uphill battle against this monster known as B.S. He tries and tries, yet cannot win the war. Often times he will win small battles, leaving for a weekend here or there or a night free once in a while. Yet in the end, it is his life that is considerably drained from him. Often times, he is not even aware that he has been affected; a useless, non-thinking puppet emerges from where once was a strong man....
