A few years ago I aquired a Rienell cruiser about 25 foot. Motor and outdrive completely wasted. Interior is wasted as well. About the only thing good is the hull. A friend of mine thought we could just strip this out and fix it up as an ugly utility boat just to fish out of. As I got into more depth in the tear out of stuff, I found this thing is going to be a financial nightmare to do on not much of a budget. Steering, shifting, instruments, gimbal, and many other things unusable.
About the only thing that was good was the trim motor/pump. I did use that on my Cub Cadet to power my hydraulics on my snow plow.
My dear wife asked what I was going to do now since I gave up on hope of getting this boat going. Told her that I don't know, but I need to do something with it. Then she tells me why don't WE fix it up into a camper. HUH?
The more I thought about it and we talked, I'm sorta leaning towards her idea. She proposes that I cut our the stern and install a door with folding steps that swing up when towing. Put a cavas cover on the open part of the rear deck and fix up the inside like a camper would be. The floor needs to be replaced, but not being used as a boat, it wouldn't need glassed in. Where the engine and gas tank would be could be replaced with fresh water and waste tanks.
As for the boat to trailer, the boat could be lowered and mounted pemanently to the trailer.
I know this idea is different, but it could be a way of utilizing a large boat in a different way.
I'm not docking my boat this year due to the suspension of my operators license. That really bums me out. So I would have plenty of time to do this project this summer.
What is your thoughts on this (besides my wife and I are a bit crazy
)....Thanks...SS
