A question about surge brakes

I have them on my trailer, and I wonder how others use them when they are backing up the trailer. To put my trailer where I park it at home, it is both uphill and over a curb to get it there. I leave marks from the tires because the surge brakes are on when pushing the boat back. How do I get around this? The previous owner usually just wired his off all the time.

I have got around it by not backing up steep hills:D I have that problem only in grass not on blacktop. I dont have a answer but im interested in what everybody else has to say.

My coupler was from Tiedown Engineering. As I recall, I used to remove the safety pin (attached to the small cable) and place it in the small hole on the top of the coupler. There is a lock-out valve you can buy and wire it to the back-up light wire on your tow vehicle

My EZ Loader has a dial on the top of the tongue behind behind the coupler.
I just have to push the little button down and turn it to the right about fifteen degrees and the brakes will not activate.

I had to cut a 4x4 into a small square and place it so it won't compress when I back up. I have it strapped on with a red strap to help me not to forget it's there when I am done.
