I'm new to the forum and have a question about putting a pulse type fuel pump on my 58 Fastwin 18.. When you remove the check valves do you only block off one side or both? common sense would tell me only one side so you will still have a pulse but as I have repaired and restored a variety of different thing this is my first outboard. I just want to be sure so I dont have to take it back apart. Thanks

I'm probably going to use the Briggs pump.. I Restore antique garden tractors as another cheap fun hobby so I have several different types of pulse type pumps laying around.. Any experience on how the new style plastic pumps hold up over time?

I have installed them for others but never myself. I think the biggest trouble with them is finding a suitable mounting location.

In the early 70s Tecumseh used a flatter style metal ump very similar to the Mikuni in your link. I may use it so I will have enough space.. I've got this motor for a 14ft aluminum v hull boat I bought.. The boat is a late 50s model so its thick aluminum probably 200+lbs empty. How fast could I expect this motor to push? 20mph?
