A questionable directory.

When I transfered a bunch of files, from an internal drive, to my newly formatted Firewire drive a sub-directory showed up called Recycler. When I clicked on it there was nothing in it so I tried to delete it. It would not delete. I then tried to cut and paste it to another drive and it said that that directory already existed.

I then checked the properties for the directory. It showed that there were several files and subdirectories, all a substantial size. Also it showed that the contents were hidden. I went to 'folder options' to un-hide everything and it was already so declared.

I then did a search, on the entire computer, for anything named Recycler. None were found. I then undid the partition on the Firewire drive to wipe out everything, which it did. I then re-copied and pasted the same contents back to the FireWire drive and this time the Recycler directory did not reappear.

Any ideas what this Recycler was about.

Re: A questionable directory.

The RECYCLER folder is associated to the recycle bin. First, make sure that the recycle bin is empty (do that for each registered user in your computer). There is one directory in the recycler folder for each registered user. Once the recycle bins are empty, the legitimiate directories should be empty as well. If you still have a directory with data, it is probably adware. You can remove the contents mannually, by going to the command prompt, navigating to c:\RECYCLER and then using rmdir/s directory_name to delete the directory in question. :|
