now that halliburton and others have almost run out of the 20.5 Billion dollars given them a year os so ago to do reconstruction in Iraq is almost gone and based on the results these contractors have shown. what do we do in the spring when they ask for another 20 Billion ??
and no I am not bashing Halliburton they just happen to be the most widly known name of about 20 or so contractors.

I only want to know what they were paid to do and what did they do. It is irrelevant to me what the current status is without that info.

Paul Wolfowitz assured us that the Oil revenue from Iraq would pay for this whole deal.

I think Haliburton should wait for that revenue to kick in.

Just why should we demand more from the contractors in Iraq than we do from them here at home?

Who here can name a major public project in your backyard that completed on time, within the budget?

You know Rod, you could have just as easily asked the same about New Orleans.

After the Northridge Earthquake here in the early '90s (?) there were some major Freewys damaged. Anyway, the State or the Feds or whoever wrote the contracts with progressive bonuses for early completion. All were done early . . .

That was a good deal for you guys QC. I wonder if the folks in Boston feel the same way about the big dig up there?

KaGee, you have a good point. The I74 bridge was closed for 6 months here in Peoria. It openned on time, but just on the east side, the Interstate still had to stay closed. So the construction company faced "fines" of $10000/day. But they blameds it on steel shipments that were late, so they can appeal to IDOT, and may not pay any fines. In the meantime, the road was closed an extra month. Construction never seems to go as planned, or cost what "they" say it will.
So in regards to Halliburton, I'd like to see what exactly they were paid to do, and how much of it they have done. And also, it's about time for US to start reaping a little oil profits!! ;)

Heck with the oil profits. How 'bout just some oil. There's already enough profits being made off it.

It's a vast left wing conspiracy to impoverish our government and demonize all capitalists.

In that case JB, call me the Head Demon! Capitalism rules!

My only "oil" complaint is this... now that oil is below $60/barrel, how come the prices don't fall as fast as they went up?? And what was the national average gas price when oil was last at this level? On the other hand, if we didn't use as much, demand would be lower, and the price would fall. So again, capitalism rules!

dang
not a single answer to a simple question.
do we give them more come spring or cancel all their contracts, bar them from any more for 2 years and try again. or just quit,
so far the iraq reconstruction debacle is so far outside the new orleans thing its laughable.
I am not asking war monies just monies that has been sighned over and there just is no record of anything.
if ya wanna go hunt for the money start typing about IG and GAO halliburton and irag
I track it periodically and its all been down hill. except the terrorist training camp in moyock NC, that camps proifits have skyrocketed.

rodbolt, I say cut em off. Look for more contractors and put it out to bid again and not let them bid on it.

Other obligations is better than burning draft card & fleeing to Canada!

Rodbolt, my opinion to answer your original question, exactly, is, no we should not just give more money. That is never the answer. It should be rebid, an open to everyone, Iraqi firms, especially to bid. Problem is, supposedly Halliburton is one of the few companies that can handle the job. Is that really true? Do we need to start "Rod & Till Construction" and do it ourselves?
