I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude toward the owners and members of iboats.com. The knowledge I have gained from the kindness and concern of otherwise total strangers is irreplaceable. There are so many good people here that I feel obligated to give you all some recognition. In case the little "thanks" at the end of every thread has gone unnoticed I say it again: THANK YOU EVERYONE. Your efforts have been amazing, heres to a long and rewarding future here at iboats.

Re: A Thank You to iboats and its members

I realize that starting a forum on a subject that involves the products you market is a great idea. Not rocket science, but this "store" has close to 300,000 potential customers.

It seems that in the conception of the site it was intended that this be a family site that dealt with most aspects of enjoying the water.

When compared to other sites, I find this one heavily "managed" which (seems to me) has been very effective in keeping the rif-raf out and keeping it an enjoyable family site.

The other thing I find here is the desire to help rather than the chance to show off.

I think helping another person through sharing our knowledge, or personal experiences, makes us all feel good and keeps us returning to the forums. I know it does me.

The other thing, by being a forum, misconceptions don't last very long. The truth prevails (normally) and myths are broken. Course sometimes things get a little stressed.

A side benefit to me is being exposed to situations that others experience that I (we) may have been exposed to with different elements or outcomes, I find very interesting and informative. One that immediately comes to mind is the current Merc lower-unit that won't separate from the mid-section.....it's like reading a novel and I can't wait to hear the conclusion.

My usual rambling 2c

This is exactly why I come here. There is no better way to learn. There are thousands upon thousands of examples of both common and rare issues that everyday people encounter with their boats.

Followed by examples by members both experienced and novice, demonstrating their troubleshooting skills and knowledge. Ultimately, if the conclusion is posted, you have a complete example of resolving a particular issue from first symptom/problem to successful resolution.

And the best part of all...it?s FREE. Think of all the times this site has saved someone hundreds of dollars that would've been spent having a mechanic fix a relatively small issue.

Not to mention the benefits passed on regarding the importance of proper maintenance and how to care for your boat/motor.

Cheers and thanks to all!

Agreed. I would have a completely rotten, non-running, but newly waxed lawn ornament if it weren't for the oodles of help I've received here at this forum. Granted, even with the help it is a rock solid, 1/2 painted, engine removed lawn ornament so far :D

Yeah but you have the spirit and are making progress. Keep it up. There are all kinds of success stories on here where folks kept it up and they are enjoying the spoils-of-their-toils daily. One case in point is a guy over in the Carolinas that had this POCrap boat with a 175 Johnny as I recall, boat was white deck and tan hull. Did the restoration a couple of years ago. It's his avatar today. Know he is tickled pink as I was with my almost totally destroyed Starcraft 18' Holiday I/O that I restored.

Texasmark hit it perfectly. This forum enables those who know to help those with questions. Each of us has his/her own experiences and troubles and solutions with our boats and engines. By sharing freely with each other, we all benefit. I first joined the site when I was refurbishing my first cruiser. Since then, I've done another. Both times, I've learned from others how to handle the problems I faced. In return, I've tried to offer others the results of my experiences, research, and knowledge. What a great community. Thank you iboats for sponsoring it, and thank you readers for asking questions and sharing answers. Hy
