Welcome to the board;<br />check your oil level... they do get hot to the touch and they do create steam after long rides ( hot case + cold water splashing case = steam)<br />was the ride 40mins at WOT ?? <br />what year + size motor ??<br />Bruce

neil, The exhaust escapes through the outdrive and yes they tend to get hot. You might try doing a search ( top of page ) for Drive shower and see what you get

Cheers guys,<br />It was at around 3200 (not wot)<br />The engine is an 87 165hp 3.7l<br />Pulling the boat out this afternoon to change oil.

Neilm, the drive takes about 1.25 litres of oil, if drive was down almost 1/2 litre then you need to find out where its going, there might be a leak I suggest you have drive pressure tested, as bondo state's "surprized its not destroyed", the drive should not get low on gear lube. <br /> Cheers.
