AARRGGHH!!!!!! New Mercury 20 hp

Just got a recall notice on my brand new 20 hp 4 stroke that I haven't even put gas in yet. Something about crankcase bolts not being torqued properly and causing an oil leak.

Hey! What's to complain about? They found a flaw and will fix it for you free. Sounds like a "like" to me.

Recall came on the day I was finally going to take it out until storms changed my plan. Just don't know how long it is going to be at the dealer and they haven't even seen this notice yet so don't even know what to check yet. Temps are getting warm here and I am ready to hit the lake!!!!

Heck, you should have kept it until they figured out what they wanted to do to it.

In 2001 I bought a new boat with a 60 hp Merc 4 stroke on the back. Got the recall notice 2 days after I brought it home. Said the reason was possible premature wear on the rocker arms. I called the dealer and they said they would replace it with a new motor as soon as they had some but in the meantime just go ahead and run it. I heard later that some of those motors actually grenaded, but mine ran the whole season with no problem.

Boat is back from the dealer for a few days until some required parts arrive. They have to pull the powerhead to get to the bolts that need to be checked but said to go ahead and run it for now. Goes back to the shop next week for about 3 days. This recall involves some 15 and 20 horse 4 strokes.
