About Majic brand paints

I have just used some flat black Majic brand paint on the windshield frames for my boat yesterday . One side turned out good and one side I screwed up and it had too many runs in the primer that showed and I gouged the new paint up pretty bad in many spots getting the side window back into the frame so I'm going to repaint the one side.
finally the question--I used TS hardener and thinner . I had a cup or more paint left over and can't get myself to throw it out . I see that the recommendation is that if the paint has sat for 8 hours or more then you should not use it. Why. Could I just add more hardener and thinner or has something been changed in the paint making it unusable ?

The hardener is fully activated after about 8 hours. You may be able to add some thinner to stretch out the time, not sure about more hardener.

But a leftover cup of paint isn't worth worrying about.

After 8hrs the catalyst (hardener) has kicked and changed the psint and wont yield intended benefit of adding it... .

Nope throw it out and start over Hopefully you did NOT use Majic Primer. It's NO good. I posted about that many times but you may not have seen that. Also I hope to sanded the frames well before applying primer and paint. If not I fear you may have adherence problems in the near future.

I seem to recall reading your post about the primer and I used SE rustoleum Primer . I scratched it up pretty good with 320 then some 400 from the start and the last or second coat of primer i used 800 . I took some advice from another member and kinda rushed the two top coats and shot them an hour apart so I would not have to sand again. I have done that many times with gelcoat that came out great so thought I'd give it a try. Hope I did not screw up there . I do intend on sanding before I re shoot the frame again I hope for the last time.

If the temps were 75+ then 1 hour between coats should be fine. I would have used 180 grit on the aluminium and finished with 220. That would have provided more Bite for the primer. But something is better than nothing. I just use a ScotchBrite pad to scuff with between coats. Works Great

you know I just bought some scotch brite pads but got the finer grit . I will grab some more of the course stuff as well for next time . Yep temps were already 80-85 that day , 105+ today here . It's mornings or nothing this week.

I know there is an 8 hr window when you use the hardener but I have used old paint to touch up a few scratches with a small brush . It cured just fine over night . That was after a few weeks actually after peeling back the dried skin over the paint .
Stored in a qt cup with lid ..

I wouldn't use the old paint mix except maybe for a tiny spot touch up....adding more hardner & thinner will make paint brittle too....not something I want to repaint with,
imo.
