Re: above ground pools
MY, ya don't know what you are gettin' into! Yikes! Want to buy my in-ground? Anyway, it is purchased, so, be careful, as has been said with the sand. Wet it and make sure you have it packed down well. Yes, the weight of the water will help to hold it in place during rains, but .... have had to resand my inground 2 times and will have to do it a third time soon. It is on a hill and the water just runs under it!

The lining will not be easy - will seem to small and as you put the water in will seem like it is pulling away. This is where you will need help - make sure you have enough to hold it into place. It will stretch and conform fairly quickly. It is no fun to put back into place when it is full of water - trust me!

Alway mix the chlorine outside! Even then, be careful and never put the cover on the container if the chlorine is wet - I had a 13 year old son of a friend spend 1 week in pediatric intensive care because the chlorine bucket got wet and the cover was laying (not tightly secured) on the top of the bucket. He was swimming about 20 feet from the bucket when he inhaled the fumes and went to the hospital! Be careful!

The good news, the more you use it, the less you have to clean it! Using it keeps the water stirred up and the filter does its job. Don't use it for a couple of days and you will be vacuuming.

Be systematic with the testing of the water and the chemicals. Don't rely on sight, keep the water balanced and it will be easier to maintain.

Have I scared you enough yet? Don't really mean to - we had a great time using the pool growing up. Now that it is mine, it is a pain, but it will be fun again when the kids get old enough to invite their friends over (good way to see who they are hanging with and keep them safe at the house instead of breakin' into Grandx's truck)!
