Re: ABS light reset

May have unpluged a speed sensor at one of the wheels, broke a sensor or broke a wire.

Give it a good visual first, and check fluid level.

On ABS brake systems, when pressing caliper piston back into caliper bore, you should open bleeder valve and let the fluid bleed out. Do not force fluid back into the system. It can cause problems with ABS system, via sludge and contaminants that build up in the hydraulic fluid.

Do the brakes feel OK?

When ABS light is on, the ABS system is NON-FUNCTIONAL, so the brakes should work as if they were a standard power brake system.

Yea RP, the brakes feel fine, nice full pedal and fluid is full, but he may have screwed up cause he is use to the old way and pushing the fluid back into the master cylinder when pressing the piston back in.

Re: ABS light reset

Not sure how to reset on that particular model. I would have to check the book {not here}. Some reset by disconnecting battery for a few seconds 20 to 30 seconds. May have to be pluged into a diagnostic computer.

May have just blown a fuse, be sure to check them all.

It just might be something simple lige a dirty sensor. You might have to take the sensors off and clean them. If you hit the "stealership" they will be able to do the diagnostics and narrow down the search to a single wheel sensor or identify the problem.

If the light was off prior to the new brake job.... I would say either a wire is broken, unhooked or a dirty sensor.

If you try to reset the light when you disconnect the battery it will take longer than 30 seconds ... I would go for 3-4 minutes.

Bob

Take it in to get a free scan ,the scan tool will clear the codes Or you can clear the code by turning on headlight switch and removing negative battery cable for 60 seconds Going in for the free scan would be better if there is a problem the codes will tell where the problem is Better safe than sorry

Re: ABS light reset

They have other issues.
You back up and hit the brakes and they squall something terrible.
You stop going forward and they will squall some also.
Me thinks SIL don't know what he was doing.
Great pedal, right at the top, but the squalling.

First unhook the neg battery cable for 3 minutes. This will reset the system. If the light stays on then check the wheel sensors with a continuity testor. As you spin the wheel the testor should flash. These work by magnetic switch. Every time a fin on the rotor passes through the switch the contacts close telling the brake to pulse.

Re: ABS light reset

Squieling is somwehat normal if you used cheap pads and old rotors. It will probably go away. The ABS light is most likely on due to him banging into the wheel sensor or its connector. Have son in law come back over, clean &inspect wheel sensor and wheel sensor connector. While he's in there, have him remove pads and apply anti squiel to the backs of the pads. Sometimes that works.
