Acceleration issues.

I bought an 88 2.3L OMC 2 1/2 years ago and restored the interior and fuel hoses etc. (please do not beat me up for getting an OMC product :-(... That ran okay last year. At the end of the year I had acceleration issue like a bad carb pump. This year It would idle, would work fine without a load, put in gear and it would not pick up rmp over 2K. Now I purchased a rebuilt carb and same thing. I drove it at full throttle would not run over 2K. I ran it for several minutes, backed it down to where it didn't make any difference in rpms. Shut it off and went fishing. Tried to start it later and it would almost run but would not catch up enough rmps to idle. I installed with rebuilt carb, New fuel filter, 100% gas, most gas was taken out and I used seafoam additive. Plugs have hot spark plugs look new. Coil is about 3 years old. Timing belt looked okay but replaced and seems to be at TDC within close range of valve timing marker. I can check compression but don't think that is the problem. I am leaning towards points, condenser, and plug wires. Or your suggestions. It seems that the distributor can advance, I think centrifugal advance. Would appreciate any suggestions. I did look at other threads but did not see results for similar problems. Thank you.

I read something about shifting linkage and a switch the falls into a v notch. Does this or can this somehow affect acceleration? Out of water with linkage disconnected I can hand throttle and it sounds fine.
