Recently I've had a problem with acceleration. When I shift in the forward position, the engine seems like it is bogging down. This problem does not appear when the throttle handle is in the neutral or reverse position. The engine is a 40 hp. johnson, 1995. Thanks in advance.

Re: Acceleration Problem

Howdy Rob.

There are three things that could be wrong. too little fuel, loss of compression or loss of fire.

Pump your primer bulb while trying to shoot the hole. If it picks up and takes off, you have a fuel starvation problem on one or both cylinders. check out your fuel system from the tank vent and pickup, through connectors and fuel lines, to your fuel pump, to the carb system.

If adding fuel pressure does no good you may be firing only one cylinder. Check your compression, plugs and ignition system.

Good luck. Let us know what you find (or don't find).

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: Acceleration Problem

Thanks J.B. for the info. It appeared to be a fuel problem (water in gas) and a couple of turns on the idle screw. The primer solenoid does not function. Will have to be replaced. Has fire to both plugs. Hopefully this has worked the bugs out. Thanks again for the tips. :D
