Acceleration problems

I have a 1974 cobia with chevy 165 hp OMC. runs good at low speeds but cannot accelerate to higher speed, hesitates and wants to stall till speed in reduced. I have replaced the fuel pump with an electric one and have had the carb disassembled and cleaned also replaced all fuel filters, can you suggest other measures for a fix

Are all cylinders firing? In the correct order? And do you have good compression?

Curious-- how do the spark plugs look? That's a quick check before checking the compression on each cylinder.

Does that have points and condenser for ignitions system. If so, that's what was causing my 1988 4.3 OMC to have the exact same issue. The rebuild kit which cost $25 for my boat included the rotor and it now runs like it used to.
