Accidentally unplugged this!

Hi.

I have a 4-stroke, 90HP Mercury, 2003.

After fogging my engine for winter, I decided to spray a little fogging oil into the spark plugs. It turns out I accidentally peeled the rubber seal back and popped the cord out of its hole (SEE RED ARROW ON PIC), thinking I was undoing the spark plug. WHAT IS THIS HEAVILY INSULATED CORD AND WHAT DOES IT DO? Oh, I now I cannot get the thick wire back in, as it is too big for the hole. HELP!

simple plug wire on the coil. pull the boot back on the wire, re-insert wire in coil. put boot back over coil tower

Use some WD-40 on the boot, it will make it slide easier.

I second Sunfish, and MercMan, if it came out the hole, it will go back in, it just needs some lube.

uhhhhh... I'm a thinkin' the bigger question/problem here is how did you fog your engine if you didn't remove the spark plugs to fog the cylinders???:facepalm:

Re: Accidentally unplugged this!

The "what does it do" part of the question is: It supplies 40,000 volts to the spark plug. The suggestion about using dielectric grease (silicon) from MercMan will help to ensure that once you get it back in, it will not all of a sudden decide to start arcing and all that bad stuff that will eventually destroy your CDI/CDM (the thing it's plugged into).
