Accumix failure

I was looking at some of the older posts regarding Accumix. We purchased a used Crestliner 2360 Eagle with a 1999 175hp Evinrude and a 1986 9.9hp Johnson for trolling. Couldn't get gas to the engine and found out that the Accumix tank was the problem. I abandoned the Accumix and went to a 50:1 mix in a 6 gallon tank. The 9.9 runs fine, but there are a few issues I see with it. First thing I noticed after lengthy trolling periods was after i got home there was a heavy milky oil deposit inside the exhaust hub in the prop. As it sat for 3 or 4 days this would eventually ooze out on the ground. Should I be running a leaner gas/oil mixture than 50:1 since the Accumix tank mixed at 100:1? I'm in the process of changing the thermostat because the engine temperature is barely luke warm. According to information I found online, the thermostat temperature is 143 degrees F. At that temperature engine block/head should be uncomfortable to the touch. I also found heavy milky oil throughout the midsection and lower unit. I do not know how long this oily deposit has been inside this engine. I use Pennsoil XLF, TC-W3 rating. I am using the same oil in both engines and only have the oil sludge in the 9.9 Johnson only. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Accumix failure

You should run that engine with a 50:1 fuel/oil ratio. You said you use it for trolling, do you ever open it up and let it clean itself out? I would make sure the engine is running at proper temp, running cold could add the problem.

Re: Accumix failure

The sludge milky oil is the unburnt fuel / oil mix, that is what lubricates the motor. Smaller motors seem to show more evidence than bigger ones.

50/1 mix or you'll burn it up.

Going to need a bigger tank for that 175.

Re: Accumix failure

Agree with the above but to be safe check your gear case oil.

Re: Accumix failure

The boat has a 30 gallon aux. and a 52 gallon main tank. Fuel supply for the 175 isn't an issue. Gear case oil level in the 9.9hp is good. Changed the thermostat (big job for such a small item) and the engine is now running much hotter than before. Couldn't find my infrared thermometer to check actual temperature, but my melt stick at 125 degrees melted while my melt stick at 163 degrees did not. I have these for my 1979 70hp Evinrude. Was going to take it out on the lake today, but began to ran with thunder and lightening. Rain isn't an issue, but I don't like being the high object on the water with lightening. Maybe I can get out tomorrow on the lake. As for oily sludge being more evident in smaller motors, I didn't know that. I ran a 1953 3hp Johnson on my other boat for trolling up through last year. Gas/oil mix on the motor states 1/2 pint oil to 1 gallon of gas. Usually fowled the spark plugs quickly. I adjusted the oil mixture down to 32:1 probably 30 or so years ago. Plugs lasted alot longer with no engine failure.
