Adapting Old OMC O/B Steering Question

I've got an old boat with 1959 or so vintage OMC controls--steering push rod, throttle cable, shift cable, and the control box and steering wheel. All the turnbuckles are fixed length, not adjustable.

Now I have a 1980 9.9 Johnson and I was wondering if there is a kit to adapt this outboard to the control cables that I have, particularly the steering.

The steering system I have uses a push rod that goes in and out when you turn the steering wheel. The push rod normally connects to a key hole slot in the middle of the carrying handle of the outboard. The 1980 outboard has no such handle or key hole slot.

Is there a way to adapt a 1980 outboard to use the 1959-style steering push rod and throttle/shift cables that I have described? Getting the steering to connect is the most critical, but the throttle and shifting would be nice too.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Kev

Yep....you can get a remote control adaptor kit for a John/Rude dealer. PN398032. This would be for the remote control shift and throttle cables.

The steering adaptor is a bolt on arm for the front of the engine. PN395245.

Take a look at ebay. Sometimes these things show up there.
