Good Afternoon
Story Part:
I recently received a free boat, and all I had to do was buy a new motor, and get it out of there. I got it out, bought a new motor, and had a great first drive of it. Park it at the dock at my house, go inside, eat, go to bed. I wake up the next morning, and find that the boat had flipped over during the night, putting half the boat, and the "new" (to me) engine that I had bought underwater. "Great." (with some more... colorful language) I flip the boat over, tow it to the ramp after taking the engine off, and WD-40-ing the hell out of it, fogging oil, so forth and so on. I pull the boat out, and find a 2 foot gouge in the hull. "GREAT" I say to myself. ANYWAYS, that brings me to the reason of my post.
Reason of the Post Part
What should I be using for re-fiberglassing the hull? The hole is not really a hole, its more of a deep scratch that went through, but it was in a lucky place. One of the wooden support beams was right where the gouge was, so I dont think I should be using Fiberglass + Resin. I am starting to think about using "Bondo-Glass" which, for those of you that don't know, is the fiberglass (short strand, kind of looks like shedded hair from a wired-hair dog) mixed with the resin. You add hardener to it, and then you spread it on, sort of like a putty/epoxy. I have had different people say use the Bondo-Glass, others say to use the "old fashioned way" of fiberglass mat and resin.
Also, on a different note, what type of anti-fouling paint should I be using? I live in the SF Bay Area, and the main area I will be using this boat is in Salt Water. What type of paint, copper content, and amount should I be using? The boat is 9-9.5 (havent actually measured) feet long, by 4.5 feet wide. Its a two seater. Does color of the paint matter? I would really not like to have a vibrant blue, preferably a color that would match the color I would be painting it (a blue, but I don't think that the blue anti-fouling paint would match the topside paint.)
Thank you all in advance, all help is greatly appreciated!
