Adding a Raw Water pressure sending to a 5.7 mercruiser

Greetings,

I have a Chaparral Signature 240 with a 5.7L TBI Mercruiser. It has closed cooling, and a sea water pump that circulates off the serpentine belt. I have no gauge telling me what the raw water pressure looks like, my fear is that the impeller might malfunction and cause the raw water side of things to overheat. Obviously I change the impeller every couple seasons and inspect things regularly to make sure that they are in working order. But it seems to me that Mercruiser failed by not offering a way to monitor incoming water pressure on the raw water side of things.

Is there any kit or anything that I could add a sensor and gauge (mounted by the helm) to monitor this incase it was to lose its impeller? anyone have a link to a kit that would work?

Thanks!

There are water pressure gauges (mostly for outboards), but no reason they wouldn't work... You would have to tee off somewhere and run the tubing up to the helm.. Most of them appear to be mechanical and use tubing, instead of a sensor with wires.

They sell em right here on iboats

im using an outboard water pressure gauge on my build. it matches the other gauges I got.

you run a section of pitot tube hose from the gauge to a 3/16" hose barb you will need to add. after your raw water pump and before your heat exchanger

and they sell them right here on iboats https://www.iboats.com/shop/boat-mo...tation/gauges/boat-water-pressure-gauges.html

you will get about 5psi at idle, and about 15 or so PSI when running.
