Adding a tell tale (alternate location)

I am adding a tell tale to my 1975 Evinrude 50 horse, and am wondering, since I have the head cover off anyways to change the thermostat, can I add the tell tale to this, instead of the cylinder head itself. I can better insure that nothing gets inside the cooling jackets if I do this, but, frankly I dont want to screw up a perfectly good part, if this isnt a good spot to place one. whats everyones opinion??

ok, well, here is the result of a tell tale in the head cover. It works - somewhat. due to the design of the cooling jackets on the motor, the only time water is in this particular passage, is after the thermostat opens. Once that happens (takes about a minute or so) the water starts flowing nicely. So, now what I have is a somewhat dual purpose tell tale, both cooling water pressure and thermostat operation, all for the bargain price of a couple of fittings and a piece of rubber vacuum hose.

ok, here are the pics that were requested. During testing at the lake, I did notice that the tell tale was peeing at all times...... must be a flow issue when on the muffs.

Good thing is, the motor runs like the proverbial molested monkey when you give it the throttle. I still need to address the difficult starting and the gassy smelling idle, but I think that another 1/4 turn on the idle jets will address that issue
