Adding additional lights to trailer

I purchased a 4'x8' HF trailer to customize to carry my long kayaks. I want to add another set of tail lights to the extension I added to the rear of the trailer. to mark the over hang of the kayaks. I put an LED light set on the standard trailer. Works fine when plugged in. Wanted to use the original analog lights but when I connect them to current lighting, the LEDs get "hot" (bright) with dimmed turning/flashers and the added lights do not light. I have it all grounded well. What am I missing?

You do not have it all grounded well. Try again. Did you run ground wire to each light or ground to the frame? What about the vehicle ground? Is it relying on the hitch, or is it grounded to a CLEAN spot on the frame?

Those analogs (hi-current) are downstream from the leds (lo-current), but the way its hooked up (in series?) might have the hi current draw coming thru the leds....way too much power thru leds....try parallel?

You can run LED's and regular filament style lights together without problem, it doesn't make a difference which ones are first in the circuit. Your problem is the circuit itself, check the grounds again and then check the bulbs and sockets for corrosion.

If you have any series wiring on a trailer you need to undo it and start over!! horrendously bad idea and no benefit at all... (think christmas lights... one burns out, the whole string goes dark.)

How far off the back do the kayaks hang?

Re: Adding additional lights to trailer

Thanks, for the help, the lights I was adding had only two wires so I was missing the ground, after getting a suggestion from a local PepBoys I added the ground wire to each light terminal and they now work fine! Thanks to all who contributed.
